Maine

maineisland Hi teacher! I’m on vacation in Maine with some of my best friends, and I’m going to speak about my holidays and about this island.

Maine is one of the states in the North of the U.S.A. near the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is the city of Augusta – that’s where we are - but the largest city is Portland.

The weather here is great. Summer is usually hot and humid, while winter is cold and snowy.

This week it has been hot and I would like to go to the beach but I can’t because of my wheelchair, so we stay at the hotel in the swimming pool.

We are staying at the Senator Inn & Spa, it’s a wonderful place where we can swim, do yoga, aerobics, and sauna, get a stone massage or eat the magnificent traditional dishes. We are staying in a big suite with fireplace and Jacuzzi. The girls just love it!!!

Last week, we took a cruise around the island. We saw many charming towns and beautiful places with incredible landscapes. The sea is calm and limpid; we can see fishes and corals at the bottom and dolphins swimming along our boat. It’s incredible!

Yesterday, we visited an interesting museum (The Maine Maritime Museum) in Augusta. We saw big sailing vessels, we heard stories about dangerous voyages to distant lands, saw how a shipbuilder’s family lived in the 19th century, smelled the dust of old and historic ships and discovered some of the mysteries of this interesting culture.

My friends and I are having a great time here. We would like to stay forever, there is so much to see, so many interesting things to do, so many magnificent sceneries to discover… But unfortunately we have to go back home!!! We are leaving next Friday!

See you next week!

All the best

Your student,

Catarina Vitorino
